The Oberoi
INFORMATION
As Malcolm de Chazal, Mauritian painter and poet, so rightly said: ‘Mauritius seems to have been sculptured and painted by a tasteful giant…’
The Oberoi, Mauritius is located at Turtle Bay on the North-West coast of Mauritius. It has twenty acres of lush sub-tropical gardens, six hundred metres of oceanfront and is surrounded by a turquoise lagoon; a majestic range of green mountains can be seen on the horizon.
This exclusive property of The Oberoi Group has a very unique architecture reflecting the African and Asian heritage of the Mauritian people. With the help of Bill Bensley, the American landscaper, Mr. Lek Bunnag, well-known Thai architect, is responsible for the detailed research in finding a real harmony with Nature so that the hotel rooms and premises have all been integrated amidst exotic foliage, trees and flowers.
All the public rooms overlook the azure lagoon. With seventy-one (71) rooms in total, the hotel accommodation includes two (2) Royal Villas with private pool and sixteen (16) Luxury Villas with private swimming pools, five (5) Luxury Villas with private garden and forty-eight (48) Luxury Pavilions.
The resort has two (2) restaurants, three (3) bars, two (2) swimming pools, a holistic spa, conference facilities, two boutiques and two floodlit tennis courts.
H.L.Lim, the interior designer from Singapore, has sought to create a serene décor by using soft and subtle natural coloured fabrics and timbers, thus creating a soothing, light atmosphere.
The spacious bathrooms have a large vanity counter, a sunken bath and a separate shower stall. All bathrooms overlook open-air private tropical gardens.
The Luxury Villas have their own private courtyards, an elevated dining pavilion from where one can view the magnificent lagoon and the Indian Ocean while dining in the privacy of their own Villas. The majority of the Villas have their own private swimming-pool for utmost discretion and relaxation.
The epitome of luxury and elegance, the Royal Villas with Private Pool (650 square metres) can be easily used as one-bedroom, two-bedroom or three-bedroom Villas by being connected to additional luxury pavilions or a private villa via a small courtyard.
Indigenous materials have been used as far as possible. For instance, sugar-cane thatch is used for the roofs, volcanic boulders as natural garden walls, and tropical plants and shrubs. All these elements have been used to create this exceptional hotel.
The Main Restaurant offers contemporary refined cuisine with subtle Mediterranean influences inspired by the warm climes of the island. Indian and Creole delicatessen are also available every evening on the menu.
Light meals, tropical fruit and cocktails will be served at the Lagoon Pool Restaurant in a casual atmosphere all day till sunset, whereas a modern fusion cuisine will be served in the evening.
The resort has a very fine collection of wines from well-known vineyards of France, California, Australia, Italy and South Africa. A fine connoisseur of wines, our Sommelier will advise and tempt you with the best “cru”.
The Oberoi Spa offers a wide range of holistic Aromatherapy, Ayurveda and Africology treatments, body massages and scrubs, and specially designed wellness programmes with 100% natural products.
Water sports such as snorkeling, water-skiing, windsurfing and hobie-cat sailing can be enjoyed in the lagoon off Turtle Bay which borders the hotel. The hotel can also organize sunset cruises, big-game fishing, catamaran and speed-boat excursions, and provide scuba diving with its in-house diving centre.
For families, this child friendly resort has dedicated staff and a host of complimentary activities to keep children aged from 4 to 13 entertained. The T.O.M. Junior Kids’ Club is open throughout the year from 09hr00 to 18hr00 every day except on Saturdays.
