DIVING IN GREENLAND

Greenland

- 11 DAY TRIP

TRAVEL DESCRIPTION

- 7 DAY TRIPBe amongst the first in the world to dive the shipwrecks Borgin and the Prison ship, dive the icebergs and experience the amazingly lively world under the seas of Greenland.

You cannot help but be impressed when diving in Greenland. It is a total experience with the sights underwater reinforced by the view from the surface. After diving a shipwreck that very few people have seen, you come up to a landscape of mountains, glaciers or heavyweight icebergs drifting by.

Whilst diving you will almost certainly see catfish and lump- 7 DAY TRIPsucker, forests of sugar tongs with 4-6meter long
leaves
and fire-red sea cucumbers. You can collect scallops for supper too.

Whilst sailing it is almost impossible not to see whales and seals. If lucky we will be able to come close to humpback whales. This protected species seems completely unfazed by the presence of man. We are hoping to be able to swim with these beautiful giants.

The diving takes place in the waters between Kangerlussuaq just north of the polar circle, and Ilulissat that lies in Diskobay 250 km north as the bird flies. During the 7 days trip we sail about 200 nautical
miles (350 km).

- 7 DAY TRIPDiving in Greenland” has, of course, a focus on diving, including icebergs, shipwrecks, drift dives and beautiful nature dives. But it would be a shame to go to Greenland without spending some time on land. Therefore as well as diving from a boat there will be visits to some towns with the possibility for other activities - for example a hike to the huge ice fjord (A UNESCO world heritage site) or via helicopter where you are set down very near the glacier itself.

There are fantastic hiking opportunities at all of our locations and the breathtaking scenery makes a bit of effort worthwhile. If you are more inclined towards shopping for handicrafts and hanging out in a café with an espresso or a beer we have you covered.

The trip is planned to shift between a couple of nights on boat or tenting and someovernight stays at comfortable hotels. Whilst at sea you a welcome to fish for your supper.

- 7 DAY TRIPWe are looking forward to welcome you onboard !

Diving in Greenland is organised in co-operation with Arctic Dive Travel, Copenhagen, Sirius Greenland, Sisimiut and Greenland Travel.

ITINERARY

We take account of delayed flights and the weather. Some dives are tide specific. This can mean that dive times are moved or, in worst case scenarios, cancelled. Most dive sites though are sheltered and diving is possible even in rough weather. We always seek an alternative if a dive is cancelled.
Some trips begin in Ilulissat and therefore occur in reverse order to that described below.

- Day 2 - The wreck of the Portugese prisonship

After a nice breakfast we will dive the very well preserved wreck of what is expected to be a Portugese prison ship. It is a 3 masted sailing ship standing on its keel and full of detail.
